Gobillot Designs Fishing Wear
My wife, Jean-Marie Gobillot has been a designer of stylish wearables for most of her adult life and developed a passion for fishing and the outdoors at an early age. Most of Jean's work is to produce one-of-a-kind garments for women and men that stand out as something unique at the same time as being very practical and superbly comfortable to wear. If interested in the Fishing Jacket shown here, or in her other designs, you may contact her directly by email at [email protected].
Traditional Fishing Jacket
It was natural for Jean when our friend Galen Mercer asked about getting a traditional fishing jacket made along the lines of an earlier age. The idea was to have a good looking and very practical jacket with full sleeves and fewer pockets than what has become customary in modern fishing vests that encourage us to carry far too much with us on the water. You can see the result below. I can tell you from personal experience wearing these jackets over the past two seasons that I will not wear anything else when fishing. Having a jacket with full sleeves takes pressure off the neck and makes a day on the river much more comfortable. I am lucky enough to have one in a lighter color when fishing the bright waters of our West as well as an olive jacket for fishing here in the East where the backdrop is usually a forest canopy. Although it perhaps has less storage than some of the vests I used to be weighed down with, I have not found myself missing tackle or fly boxes.
Each jacket is custom fitted to your measurements and many other features of the jacket are also customized to your specifications. This includes the number and size of pockets, type of large rear pocket (usually the place for a rain jacket) and any special details you would like. The fabric is a light canvas in your choice of color and a soft corduroy liner around the neck and throat is especially cozy on those cooler days with a bit of breeze when we want to button the collar. Each is designed specifically for your gear and fly boxes. Finished with horn buttons for easy one hand access and to accompany the distinctive tailoring and style of the jacket. Available on a custom basis only by contacting Jean at [email protected]. Prices start at $875
