G.H. Howells 7½ ft 2pc/2 tips 3¼ oz, #5 line, ser. #4601
G.H. Howells 7½ ft 2pc/2 tips 3¼ oz, #5 line, ser. #4601. This is the single best casting Howells rod I've had in my hand. It was built originally for my old friend and customer Art Warner and I am told by Robert Bolt, current holder of the Howells shop, that it was built in the same group of a few rods as the rod built for Marty Keane. No wonder Marty extolled the virtues of Howells rods in his Classic Rods and Rodmakers! I have had several 7½ ft, 3¼ oz rods in my hand, as well as the 3⅜ oz model at the same length and they were all good, but this rod is exceptionally so and it has been in my personal collection for some years now. It remains in excellent condition throughout, the only real sign of use being a slightly soiled grip and some varnish scuffs. Lovely butterscotch colored cane from Howells distinctive heat treating. It has the double wraps at guides as Gary did on all rods earlier in his career, extra work he abandoned later to save time. In original bright red bag (sewn by Gary's mother) and labeled tube. SOLD
