H.L. Leonard 4099, 8ft. 3pc/2 tips 4 ½ oz. The slightly stronger Leonard pre-fire tapers such as this are quite rare and are seldom seen in the secondary market. This one remains in exceptional original condition throughout apparently little used. Casting this rod with a WF6 line I found it to be exceptionally good, very smooth with great range. I liked the rod so much that I measured its taper for my taper library and found it to be the most accurate (around the flats) Leonard I have ever measured, comparable in fact to a Garrison. Quality varied a great deal from the Leonard shop pre-fire, I believe depending mostly on who the shop foreman was, and this rod has all the hallmarks of quality build that we like to see. It has the beautiful Leonard red wraps tipped with variegated green/black at all guides, grip, ferrules and tip top. Truly an exceptional example of Leonard's best work in a hard to find model.
