~W.E. Carpenter 'Browntone', 8 ft. 2pc/2 tips, 4⅜ oz for #5 line. This rod remains in at least excellent condition and would be a perfect 'all round' trout rod. Before I started hollow-building I always felt an 8 ft. #5 line rod was the ideal rod for most of the fishing I do, from the Catskills to the Rockies. Typical and distinctive fast and smooth Carpenter action with impeccable manners. The stripping guide is carbaloy and snake guides tungsten steel held in place with brown wraps tipped black. Butt cap is the most beautiful 'acorn' style below a figured spacer and aluminum hardware and nickel silver cap. If I were to choose one rod to represent the best of Walt's work, it would be this model or perhaps the 7'9" rod for the same line. In original bag with tag and labeled brass-capped tube.
