Jim Payne model 103, 8 ft. 2pc/2 tips 4½ oz. This is a model that doesn't turn up very often in my experience and this one is in exceptional original condition. As sometimes seen on Paynes, this one is straight as a pin even though the grip soiling shows a fair amount of use. A bit stronger than the more common 102, this rod will like a #6 line. It has the reverse twist 'English' guides and 'sold by' stamp on the hardware indicating a rod built prior to A&F acquiring a more controlling interest in Payne. There are two small areas on the reel-seat filler that could use filling where varnish has chipped and there is an indent in the cork from a guide over the years. I have tried to show this in one of the photos that includes the reel-seat, but it is hard to see the indent; not very objectionable certainly and the cork is otherwise in very good shape.
