~E.C. Powell 'Companion' rod, 8½/9 ft
~E.C. Powell 'Companion' rod, 8½/9 ft, 2 butts, 2 tips for #5 and 6 lines. This is the exact rod pictured on the cover of my book on the life and work of E.C. Powell "A Fly Rod With a Soul" and it appears in several places inside the book as well. Tips are identical and the butts are of differing lengths, making up into two rods, one an 8½ ft #5 line rod and a 9 ft #6 line rod. The taper is a subtle A taper, so a touch faster than the more common B9 taper. It is semi-hollow as indicated by the patent number and the white / black tipping at the grip. This rod would have been built in the early 1950's after Walton had left the business and before Tony Maslan started to work with E.C. It remains in excellent condition with the small exception of a chip of cork missing at the reel-seat edge of the grip (easily seen in one of the photos). It has been many, many years since I have seen an example of this model and of this quality come to market. In original olive twill four compartment bag and brass-capped tube (I've added a piece of white felt in the top cap). SOLD Click on smaller images to enlarge
