R.L. Winston 7½ ft.
~R.L. Winston 7½ ft., 2pc/2 tips, 3⅜ oz. Built in 1967 by Doug Merrick for Don Hopkins who was a great customer of Winston in those days out of Spokane, WA. Rods built for Mr. Hopkins always seem to be particularly nice and this one is no exception. It remains in at least excellent + (I want to say near mint) condition and as Glenn Brackett puts it, was built originally with "two tips in a one-tip era" at Winston. Glenn tells me that it was built for a #5 line, though it has plenty of backbone for a WF6 as well, and in my hands I prefer the slightly heavier line. A wonderful casting rod in just superb condition. In original bag with San Francisco label and tube with the "R.L. Winston fluted hollow / patented rod" label almost 100% in tact.
