Mark Canfield 7'8" Modified Dry Fly
~Mark Canfield 7'8" 2pc/2 tips 'modified dry fly' built for a #6 line. Rods from this maker don't show up very often and I can tell you that I feel they are likely to greatly increase in value when the market catches up with the distinctive character and high quality of these rods. Action is a strong dry fly with a depth of reserve power, perfect especially for medium to larger flies. From another maker his wrap choices and execution could be overly decorated, but with Mark's aesthetic sensibility they are pure class. Mark goes also by the company name of 'Red Willow & Co.' as printed on the tube label and in tiny script at the bottom of this label we read "the best my hands can build." The butt cap is also stamped with a horseshoe logo on bottom and with "Red Willow & Co. / M. Canfield / Rodmaker." A blued Mildrum SRMC stripping guide is matched to bronzed snake guides of the 'English' left hand twist style. Mark has been in this bamboo game a very long time, longer than I have, I believe, and I've known for years of the depth of his understanding and insight into quality classic bamboo rods. His specialty is Gillum rods and tapers, but he has broad knowledge of a range of classic rod makers and designs.
