~Jim Payne Canadian Canoe
~Jim Payne Canadian Canoe with detachable fighting butt, 8½ ft, 3 pc/2 tips for #7 line, 5¾ oz (on tag). I at one time owned this rod after buying it from my friend Jack Coyle over 15 years ago. For years Jack wouldn't sell it to me, and it was the one rod I wanted the most in the world. In a weak moment after an expensive tackle auction I pried the rod out of him. I had cast the Payne canoe model before, but what was so special about this one for me was that it was (and is) in remarkable condition, but also that it comes with a detachable fighting butt and the butt plug to match. When I first put a line on this rod after purchasing it my first thought was "how could anyone sell this rod?" Nice Canoe rods don't come up often and this one is in excellent original condition and finish. Perfection stripper and American pattern tungsten steel snake guides. The only stamping is 'Payne / Reg. U.S. Pat. Off.' with no dealer's stamp on the rod, but the bag is stamped with 'William Rosgen / Riverton Road / Winsted, Conn.' Bill Rosgen was a well known shop with a reputation for carrying the finest tackle. He was also a dealer of Sam Carlson's and Edwards Quadrate rods. In original bag with tag, replacement ferrule plugs and a replaced fighting butt, Payne tube with blue label, and outer tube bag also housing the fighting butt. $6,750 SOLD (on tag).
