~Paul Young Martha Marie 7½ ft. 2pc/2 tips marked 2⅝ oz. This is one of the last rods made by Bob Summers while working with the Paul Young Company in 1974. It has been very lightly used and remains a powerhouse of a fly rod. The rod shaft is marked "2⅝ oz" and this must be the blank weight, as on my digital scale it comes in at over 3¾ oz. Bob Summers called for a #5 line on this rod, but in my hands test casting it, a #6 certainly did not overload it; lots of power to spare. Paul Young designed this model for his wife to fish large trout on Michigan's rivers and apparently it did the job well judging by the demand for it. The rod remains in excellent, lightly used condition throughout with one exception of a glitch in the bamboo close to a node in the butt section. This can be clearly seen in one of the photos and if the rod were mine, I would put a short 'invisible wrap' of less than an inch over that section for added security. As seen in the photos, rod shafts display the distinctive and dramatic flaming typical of Young rods. In original plum colored nylon bag and aluminum tube. SOLD
