To hold a rod from this maker in such pristine, almost untouched condition is astonishing; it looks like it left the workshop a week ago and remains in absolute mint, original condition. Likely the most iconic American single hand salmon rod ever built. Proper "H.S. Gillum / Maker" stamp on lock nut and alignment witness marks on ferrules. What more can be said? I have never seen a better, or even an equal, example of a Gillum rod, except perhaps for the 8½ ft strong trout rod also listed on this site that came years ago from the same Philadelphia collection and with consecutive serial numbers.
