Everett Garrison model 193
~Everett Garrison model 193, 6 ft 9 inches 2½ oz. In talking recently with Hoagy Carmichael about this rod, his words were "that is beyond rare." This is the exact rod that appears on the cover of Marty Keane's 1976 book Classic Rods and Rodmakers. It is also discussed in detail on page 124 of that volume, and appears again in the color section of that book between pages 214 and 215. There were only five model 193 rods built, and one model 195, for a total of six rods at this length built by Mr. Garrison. This one has a particularly delicate action, liking a #4 line on the lighter side, although Marty Keane called for a #3 line on this rod. I cast it close to 30 years ago now while examining Tom Clark's collection at his home in Rives Junction, Michigan and used the taper I took from it to build my own version many years ago. Action is pure semi-parabolic Garrison; there is simply nothing like it. This rod was built in 1954 and shows the expected resorcinol glue at the corners, though less obvious than on lighter colored rods. Wraps and finish are original and untouched, the original varnish is complete and fully covering, and shows crazing which should polish out should the new owner require. Ferrule fit is perfect and it has the appropriate all cork reel-seat with rather diminutive diamond-knurled slide band. In original bag with ferrule plug attached and original brass capped tube. From the Thomas H. Clark collection. SOLD
