H.L. Leonard 8ft 3pc/2 tips 4⅜ oz
H.L. Leonard 8ft 3pc/2 tips 4⅜ oz. I admit that I have a fondness for these early Leonards from before WWII and this one has a surprisingly fast action for what feels like a #5 line. It has the expected Leonard stamping on the butt cap including the "REG US PAT OFF" and "Tournament" on the opposite side. This rod looks to have been refinished at Leonard in the 1970's and has the original agate stripping guide and black snakes. Varnish and wraps are excellent throughout and ferrule fits are perfect. Cork shows some ridging and a chip missing where it was possibly used as a hook-keeper, but I would fish it as is and I am sure its most recent owner did just that. Rod has a subtle fish-fighting bend and the butternut reel-seat shows some exposure to moisture. A nice, faster action alternative to the more common model 50 from a later era. Note that stickers on tube say it is 7'6", but it is eight feet I assure you. In original bag and brass-capped Leonard tube. $1125 SOLD
